Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Begins Construction on Two 114,000 Ton Aframax Oil Tankers Simultaneously

On December 27th, the groundbreaking ceremony for the 114000 ton Afra product oil tankers H1573&H1582, built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Corporation, for Greece's Thenamaris and Singapore's EPS, was successfully held at the cutting center of the manufacturing department. Costel Morun, the resident manager of Thenamaris, KIM YOUNG IL, the resident manager of EPS, Ioannis Koufalitakis, the business director of foreign shipowners in Greater China at Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LR), Li Haijiang, the resident manager of LR, and representatives from relevant departments of the company jointly participated in the groundbreaking ceremony.


The H1573 ship is the second 114000 ton Aframax oil tanker built by the company for the Greek company Thenamaris, and the H1582 ship is the first 114000 ton Aframax oil tanker built by the company for the Singapore EPS company. The two ships are classified by LR classification society and designed in detail by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. This type of ship has a total length of 249.95 meters, a width of 44.0 meters, a depth of 21.2 meters, a designed draft of 13.5 meters, and a designed speed of 14.5 knots. It uses MAN B&W 6G60ME-C10.5 main engine and meets TIER III specifications.


The H1573 and H1582 ships are the 24th and 25th ships that the company will commence construction in 2023, and also the second and fifth 114000 ton Aframax finished oil tankers that the company will carry and build in Docks 1 and 2, respectively. Each department of the company actively implements production preparation work, with detailed designs exceeding 80%. All production preparation work is being implemented according to plan.
