Beihai Shipbuilding Naming for the Second 5500TEU Container Ship Built by Dafei Shipping
On April 29th, China Shipbuilding Group Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Industry Trading Co., Ltd., as joint sellers, named the second 5500TEU container ship "PRESIDENT GRANT" (President Grant) for Dafei Shipping Group at the company's dock.
Since the beginning of the new year, Beihai Shipbuilding has implemented the high-quality development strategy of the group company and successfully delivered 5 ships. The company has anchored its annual goals, pursued progress steadily, worked hard, and fully fought for the second quarter, tackling the "double over half" problem, laying a solid foundation for fully completing the annual target tasks.
Leaders and guests from various parties attended the ceremony, including Zhou Zhijuan, the newly appointed celebrity of the new ship, Lu Lin, Damian Tieri, Daniel Christie of Dafei Steamship, Ai Rui of French Classification Society, the Mainland Charter of China Shipbuilding Corporation, and Yang Shuzhen of Beihai Shipbuilding. The celebrity Zhou Zhijuan named the new ship "PRESIDENT GRANT".
The 5500TEU container ship project is the first new shipbuilding project in cooperation between Dafei Company and Beihai Shipbuilding. The two parties signed a ship construction contract on April 30, 2021. This series of new shipbuilding includes 10 ships, and the first ship "CMA CGM SAHARA" was delivered on February 1st. The named "PRESIDENT GRANT" ship is the second ship in this series.
The "PRESIDENT GRANT" ship was designed and built by Beihai Shipbuilding and Shanghai Shipbuilding Research and Design Institute (SDARI) for Dafei Shipping Group. The total length of the ship is 255 meters, the width is 40 meters, the depth is 22 meters, the structural draft is 14 meters, and the load capacity is 72961.3 tons. It is classified by BV classification society and is an energy-saving, environmentally friendly, safe and efficient medium-sized container ship.
Beihai Shipbuilding has carried out comprehensive design optimization on the ship's hull, further optimizing fuel consumption and significantly reducing emissions of sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides. The energy efficiency design index (EEDI) is 53.3% lower than the baseline, significantly better than the three-stage standard, improving the operational efficiency and safety of port entry and docking operations, and making every effort to create a high-quality ship that is energy-saving, environmentally friendly, safe and reliable for shipowners.
During the project construction process, Beihai Shipbuilding established lean management goals, improved production and construction processes, actively leveraged the advantages of mass production, learned from previous ship experience, optimized design, continuously promoted process advancement, steadily improved the integrity of ship undocking, and ultimately achieved a significant reduction in the trial voyage period.
