On February 13th, the floating production storage and unloading vessel (FPSO) L é opold S é dar Senghor provided by Japan's Mitsui Marine Development Corporation (MODEC) for the Sangomar offshore oil field project in Senegal arrived at its destination. This FPSO is retrofitted by Dalian COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry and is expected to be put into operation in mid-2024.

The L é opold S é dar Senghor was modified from a 300000 ton VLCC "ASTIPAL" vessel. This is the 12th FPSO modified by Dalian COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry for MODEC. The FPSO modification work was completed in November 2022, and it went to Singapore's offshore shipping giant Keppel and a shipyard under Maritime (now renamed Haiting) for upper module integration and debugging. Last December, Haiting completed the integration and debugging of the upper module of the FPSO, and the ship was successfully delivered and left the factory.

According to the plan, this FPSO will be deployed approximately 100 kilometers south of Dakar to serve the first phase of the Sangomar oilfield development project on Woodside, Australia. After arriving in Senegal, Woodside will proceed with the next phase of work, including FPSO trial operation and connection of 23 production wells, natural gas wells, and injection wells in the first phase of the Sangomar project.

Meg O'Neill, CEO of Woodside, emphasized, "The arrival of this FPSO marks an important step on the road to production for the Sangomar project. We are proud to develop Senegal's first offshore oil project and firmly believe that the project will prove to be of great significance for the future development and prosperity of Senegal.". In addition to developing Senegal's energy resources, we have started collaborating with the Senegalese government, local businesses, and communities to create business opportunities, build local capacity, promote employment opportunities, and bring widespread economic benefits through our operations

It is understood that the FPSO is 372 meters long, 58 meters wide, and 31 meters deep. The maximum operating depth is 1300 meters, and it produces 100000 barrels of crude oil and 1.3 million cubic feet of gas per day. It injects 145000 barrels of water per day and has a crude oil storage capacity of 1.3 million barrels. It will serve in the Sangomar oilfield in Senegal, a country on the west coast of Africa. The project integrates production processing, storage and unloading, personnel living, and production command. It can operate continuously in offshore oil fields for 20 years without entering the dock for maintenance. The living area can accommodate 140 people working and living at the same time, making it a truly "giant offshore oil processing plant".

Dalian COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry has made multiple new breakthroughs in the Sangomar FPSO modification project. The project's torch tower adopts integral construction and lifting technology, with a lifting baseline height of 172 meters, breaking the record for the highest overall construction and lifting of FPSO torch towers in China; The company has undertaken the overall installation project of FPSO external turret structure for the first time, with a total lifting weight of over 2500 tons. The technical team of its external turret single point mooring system has overcome technical difficulties such as ultra-high lifting of external turret modules, aerial docking, and ultra-high lifting positioning welding. The team has been selected for the "Dalian Key Field Innovation Team List".
